Southeastern University Nursing Clinical Immersion: Zambia

Zambia | July 30 – August 10

This immersive clinical experience is exclusively designed for Southeastern University students seeking meaningful, supervised hands-on care in a global health setting. Students will serve in a Zambian hospital and surrounding communities, supporting pediatric care, inpatient medical-surgical units, operating room services, and women’s health initiatives.
Oh, and did we mention this global partner site is run by an SEU nursing alumni????

Clinical & Learning Objectives

• Provide supervised hands-on nursing care in a Zambian hospital

• Support pediatrics, inpatient med-surg, OR, and women’s health services

• Learn nursing roles in rural and community health settings

• Develop cultural competence and professional adaptability

• Understand healthcare delivery in resource-limited environments

• Strengthen clinical judgment, communication, and global nursing perspective

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Thursday, July 30

Travel Day
Depart the United States for Zambia.

Day 2 – Friday, July 31

Arrival & Orientation
Arrive in Zambia and transfer to accommodations.
Welcome briefing, safety orientation, and overview of the Zambian healthcare system and nursing scope of practice.

Day 3 – Saturday, August 1

Hospital Orientation & Nursing Integration
Hospital tour and unit orientation.
Introduction to pediatric, med-surg, OR, and women’s health teams.
Discussion on patient flow, documentation, and nursing care delivery.
Host community Sports camps 

Days 4–8 – Sunday–Thursday, August 2–6

Clinical Nursing Rotations
Students rotate through hospital units, including:

• Pediatrics: inpatient care, family education, and child health support

• Inpatient Med-Surg: medication administration support, assessments, and patient care

• Operating Room: perioperative nursing observation and sterile technique exposure

• Women’s Health: maternity care, prenatal education, and postpartum support

Clinical days are complemented by guided reflection and debriefing with faculty and local nursing leaders.

Day 9 – Friday, August 7

Rural & Community Health Exposure
Visit rural clinics and community health programs.
Learn how nurses address access barriers, preventive care, and public health education outside hospital settings.
Host community sports camp 

Day 10 – Saturday, August 8

Community Engagement & Reflection
Participate in community outreach and health education.
Group reflection on professional growth, ethical care, and global nursing leadership.

Day 11 – Sunday, August 9

Service Wrap-Up & Cultural Connection
Final hospital visits and appreciation exchange with local nursing teams.
Cultural activities and closing reflection.

Day 12 – Monday, August 10

Travel Day
Depart Zambia and return to the United States.
